Every English Parish must have an Annual Parish Meeting (Local Government Act 1972 s13(1).
This meeting consists of the local government electors registered for the area for which it is held i.e. all those who have a right to vote in Foston. It can be convened by the Parish Council Chairman, two Parish Councillors or six electors for the area for which it is to be held. The meeting must be held each year between 1st March and 1st June (inclusive.) and must be after 6pm in the evening!
So that’s the law…..what happens in practice?
Historically Foston’s Annual Parish Meeting has been organised by Foston Parish Council and is generally held in April or May. Community Groups are invited to speak and it is an opportunity for the Parish Council and community groups to report on their activities during the year. It is also an opportunity for residents to ask questions, make suggestions, meet new neighbours and friends and to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or two.
The Parish Council invites residents and representatives from village groups by email and printed invitation and advertises the meeting on the notice board and website. The Parish Council hosts the event and provides refreshments and pays for the Village Hall hire.
The Spring 2020 Meeting was cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
When is the Next Meeting?
The next Annual Parish Meeting will be Spring 2024 in the Village Hall, Church Street, Foston NG32 2LG.
We look forward to meeting you next time!
