The Annual Meeting and Mayor Choosing of Helston Town Council is held on the Tuesday before the Full Council Meeting for May in the Guildhall, Helston. The outgoing Mayor gives thanks, and the new Mayor (who will already have been chosen by Councillors at a previous special Full Council Meeting) gives a speech outlining his/her plans for the forthcoming year and makes a formal declaration of acceptance of office. His/her Macebearers also make a formal undertaking to serve the Mayor to the best of their abilities over the year.
After the meeting has formally chosen the new Mayor for the following civic year, the meeting is adjourned until the Council Meeting on Thursday, which is the third Thursday of the month like all full Council Meetings. The new Mayor takes the chair and the Meeting proceeds in the usual way.
The Meetings are open to the public.
